Kedar Upreti is a creative professional in the Nepali film industry, widely recognized for his multifaceted contributions as an actor, writer, director, lyricist, and filmmaker. With a deep passion for storytelling and a lifelong love for cinema, he has dedicated his career to enriching the landscape of Nepali films through creativity, innovation, and artistic vision.

An actor, director, and producer known for his versatility, Kedar Upreti has played an important role in both Nepali and Bhutanese Nepali cinema. He is especially known for his work in the first Bhutanese Nepali film “Jhupadi Ko Jindagi” (2005). Over the years, he has been involved in several films including “Tukriyeko Mutu” (2007), “Astitowa Ko Ladai” (2008), “Talas” (2009), “Murchunga” (2017), “Karma” (2018), “Kina” (2021), “Khai K Khai K” (2023), and “Hew Ko Geet” (2024).

Kedar Upreti began his journey in the film industry with the movie “Punarmilan” (2000), where he demonstrated his talent in scriptwriting and made his debut as a director. Since then, he has acted as a lead actor in more than fifteen films and has worked on numerous projects representing the Bhutanese Nepali community. Within this community and the wider Nepali film industry, he is recognized as one of the successful and popular actors.

Among his works, “Jhupadi Ko Jindagi” (2005) remains one of his most beloved films, while the historical film “Tukriyeko Mutu” (2007) also holds a special place in his career. Over time, he has acted in dozens of films across Nepali and Bhutanese productions.

In addition to feature films, Kedar Upreti has directed more than four dozen music videos. In 2017, he released two musical albums titled “Kassam” and “Seetal.” His creative work also includes directing several short films such as “Dark Honey,” “Transformer,” “Taking Care of Needy Mama,” “Karma,” and “Maan Ko Baag.”

He also participated in the 48 Hours Film Festival in Dallas, Texas, USA, where he directed two English short films titled “Transformer” and “Taking Care of Needy Mama.”

Kedar Upreti’s work has been recognized with several prestigious awards. In 2014, he received the Best Short Movie Maker Award at the First Himalayan Films Festival for his film “Welcome Back.” In 2017, he was officially recognized by the Film Development Board Nepal as both a producer and actor. That same year, he worked on the unique genre film “Murchunga,” which gained notable popularity.

His short film “Karma” earned him the Best Director Award at the Global Nepali Music, Media, and Social Movie Awards in 2018. He later received the Global Nepali Film Award in Colorado, USA, on January 5, 2019, and the ATA Everest Global Nepali Award on August 12, 2023, in New York, USA.

Through his dedication, creativity, and commitment to storytelling, Kedar Upreti continues to contribute significantly to the development of Nepali cinema and the representation of the Bhutanese Nepali community in film.
